Simone Lilienfeld
Q: How long have you lived in Camps Bay?
A: I’ve lived in the City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard my whole life, and moved to Camps Bay in 2021.
Q: How have you been involved in local community affairs?
A: I’ve been involved with the PTA at Camps Bay Primary since my daughter started at the prep school there. I started getting involved with the CID on the Landscaping Subcommittee, and have gotten increasingly involved up to the point where I was asked to join as a director.
Q: What is your career and professional background?
A: I have a Masters in City and Regional Planning from UCT, and a BA and a BSc in Environmental and Geographic Sciences. Before I took a break to be a stay-at-home parent, I worked for an urban design and city planning company, and in various other project-based roles ranging from publishing to photography to property management.
Q: Anything else that we should know about you?
My husband, Riaz, and I have two children, who are both at Camps Bay Primary. We love the mountains, and spend as much time as we can hiking and trail running. We also love big adventure travels, often in our old-school Combi Synchro. Camps Bay epitomises everything we love; it’s a seaside holiday town and mountain village rolled into one, all within easy reach of a big city – we feel incredibly lucky to live here.
Yet while Camps Bay is already a fantastic place to live, there is a lot of untapped potential in its extensive greenbelts, parks, and beachfront. I want to help the CID lead efforts to enhance and upgrade these public spaces to make them more family-friendly and ecologically vibrant. I want us to improve the network of trails and pathways, to make the neighbourhood more accessible for pedestrians, trail runners, and mountain bikers and allowing us all to more easily access the wonderful environment our suburb sits in.
